Friday 19 July 2024

Winners include Aldi’s burgers, Lidl’s honey and mustard sausages, and co-op’s vanilla & caramel gelato.

Over 140 products from 12 national supermarkets were blind-tasted by an expert panel of judges overseen by an independent adjudicator.

Summer has finally arrived and after extensive testing, the experts at Good Food have today (Friday 19 July) revealed their pick of the top supermarket summer foods, ideal for enjoying outdoor eating, on a budget, while saving valuable time in the kitchen.

From classic barbecue burgers, to picnic-friendly sausage rolls, including options for vegans and vegetarians, plus ice cream for dessert, the Good Food Summer Taste Test Awards showcase the best supermarket summer time-savers to help you pack up and head out the minute the sun shines.

Over 140 products across 16 categories from 12 supermarkets were put through the rigorous Good Food testing process over two days. All packaging was removed before presenting to the judges, and comments and a score out of 10 submitted for each product via anonymous online judging forms. The entire judging process was overseen by an independent adjudicator and the food prepared by home economists.

“Every year the Good Food Supermarket Taste Test Awards show it is possible to save time in the kitchen and eat well without spending a huge amount. Our choice of summer staples and warm weather treats mean you can spend more time outdoors with friends and family enjoying picnics and barbecues. Add a personal touch with one of our easy barbecue sauces, salads or sides, like our Sweet mustard potato salad that’s ready in 20 minutes.”
