Data Privacy and Commercial Lawyer (salary up to £60,000)
Part-time, 25 hours per week over 5 days

About the role
This role sits within Immediate’s friendly and expert legal team of 9. We’re looking for someone to bring expertise on all things data privacy, working across our operational data privacy systems and advising the Legal team and the broader business on data privacy matters.
This role has responsibility for managing and maintaining our ROPA and working with the business to ensure that impact assessments are performed and recorded appropriately. You’ll also advise the business on contractual data privacy matters, and act as the data privacy subject matter expert within the Legal team, working with experienced and supportive colleagues.
You will also have the opportunity to work across our exciting media business on commercial matters, reaching out to the enthusiastic audiences who engage with our digital, video, audio and print content.
You’ll work in our Hammersmith office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, which are our ‘anchor days’. The successful candidate will work across all five weekdays, working for five hours each day within our usual core hours (9.30am-5.30pm). There may be some occasional travel within the UK, to work with colleagues in Immediate’s Bristol, Manchester or Nottingham offices.
As a Data Privacy and Commercial Lawyer you will;
- Support the DPO in ensuring that Immediate maintains best practice in data privacy matters
- Advise the business on matters relating to data risk, privacy and protection, including matters concerning GDPR and PECR and the compliance with such legislation across the business
- Maintain and develop our systems, including but not limited to ensuring that the ROPA is kept up to date and that impact assessments are prepared as needed
- Work with the business to solve data issues raised by expansion into new jurisdictions
- Provide in-house training to commercial teams on regulatory and compliance data issues
- Support and advise on data privacy matters concerning Immediate’s consumers
- Liaise with our parent company’s data privacy specialists based in Germany
- Work with the business and your colleagues in the Legal team on the drafting and negotiation of agreements where they relate to aspects of data privacy
- Contribute to the development of best practice around data privacy within the team and to develop clear and practical processes and controls for the business

- Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial agreements and partnerships across the Immediate brands
Requirements
- The role would suit a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years’ PQE in a commercial law firm or fast-paced in-house environment
- A high-quality training contract or equivalent experience and have a track record of academic success. Alternative qualifications and experience will be considered
- A thorough understanding of data protection law (in particular GDPR and ePrivacy regulations) and an enthusiasm for its integration with our commercial activities
- A solid understanding of contract law is essential. Some experience of intellectual property laws is desirable
- Strong drafting skills, negotiation, communication and relationship skills
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- High quality performance, particularly under pressure
- Effective time-management and prioritisation skills, particularly given the part-time nature of this role
- An affinity with and enthusiasm for this ambitious business
