TV Listings Senior Sub-editor (up to £35,000)

Immediate is home to some of the biggest and most loved consumer brands in the UK, including Radio Times, Good Food and BBC Gardeners World magazine. Our trusted, quality content reaches millions of people a month across digital, print, video, podcasts, apps and live events.

We’re the destination for people looking to get more from the things they love. We’re here to inspire, fuel, encourage and educate.

Whether it’s the big things, or the little things; from reaching fitness goals to savouring good food, cultivating outdoor spaces, or enjoying the latest TV sensation – we help bring our audiences joy!

About the role

Do you relish an argument about the use of “that” or “which” and get frustrated by bad grammar on billboards? Are you glued to Newsnight and Panorama but also love Gogglebox – and know exactly what the Dingles, Platts and Mitchells are up to this week?

We are looking for a bright, experienced TV Listings Senior Sub-editor to join our six-strong team, preparing accurate and engaging TV listings pages for a range of channels in Radio Times magazine, the UK’s best-loved premium TV title.

As a TV Listings Senior Sub-editor, you will:

  •  Write programme billings and picture captions, and proof-read TV listings pages, checking times/titles/billings against the broadcasters’ schedules and keeping them up to date from production to press-pass
  • Maintain the highest standards of accuracy, precise description, house style, good writing – and hitting tight deadlines.
  • Be knowledgeable and enthusiastic about TV – and be familiar with anything from soaps’ plot lines and TV quiz formats to the latest big dramas and headline-making documentaries.
  • Be a tip-top performer and fast learner – flexible and ready to pick up whatever’s thrown at you
  • Have the experience and authority to make quick decisions when deadlines are looming
  • Report into the Listings Editor and his Deputy, who will be responsible for ensuring your work is of the highest standard
  • Work closely with the rest of the Radio Times magazine Listings team, including Films and Radio, plus liaise with the wider RT editorial group and external contacts, including programme-makers and schedulers

Requirements

  • Relevant print-based sub-editing experience in a busy commercial environment. Experience in subbing TV listings is an advantage.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Adobe InDesign
  • Strong attention to detail, great proof-reading skills and a passion for good grammar and adherence to house style
  • Great communication skills, and an excellent collaborator
  • Excellent organisational skills that support the rest of the team
  • Ability to manage your time effectively, responding to the fast pace and daily deadlines of a weekly magazine
  • Enthusiastic about TV in all its formats – both old and new

Benefits

  • A relaxed working environment with regular socials including a summer festival
  • Supportive well-being initiatives and benefits, talks & workshops, and Mental Health First aiders & Champions
  • 25 days holiday plus a day for your birthday. Our offices will be closed between Christmas and New Year’s which are in addition to your annual entitlement
  • Tailored training and development through both our inhouse learning platform and LinkedIn Learning
  • A progressive and transparent culture focused on your development
  • Flexible / hybrid working plus early finish Fridays
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Enhanced Family Policies including paternity, adoption and surrogacy leave. We also provide a pregnancy loss, fertility, and carers policy
  • Competitive pension plans and Life Assurance
  • A newly renovated modern office with lots of collaborative spaces
